The history of the Civic innovation Labs (LABIC) demonstrates what can happen when people are given the means and to develop their own strategies to solve their problems. The result of this experience is such that, beyond its obvious successes, reveals the power of creativity, perseverance, and teamwork. The LABIC were born in 2014 as a space where people from every corner of Iberoamerica could propose specific and innovative solutions to their communities’ problems. Over the last eight years, this model has produced almost a hundred high impact ideas.

During the VIII Summit of the Americas (Peru, April 2018), the leaders of the Americas approved the creation of the Inter-American Task Force on “The opinions expressed, arguments used, and policy recommendations do not necessarily reflect the official point of view of the executive boards nor the Member States that are part of each of the partner institutions of the Inter-American Task Force on Women’s Leadership.” Women’s Leadership, committing to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women through greater cooperation and synergies between institutions that promote women’s leadership in the Amer-icas and the Caribbean.

This report has been developed in the framework of the t initiative of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and UN Women’s Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean that seeks to promote the elimination and reform of discriminatory legislation that undermines or limits women’s economic empowerment. The report presents a detailed analysis of the current legislation on women’s economic autonomy and empowerment in each of the 22 Ibero-American countries and proposes a reform agenda with recommendations in regards to specific provisions that require reform and/or elimination.

Safeguarding and advancing women’s economic empowerment in the wake of covid-19: an opportunity to build back better 21544z
The following paper was led by the SEGIB and reflects the vision of GWL Voices for Change and Inclusion on recommended action points required to mitigate the consequences of the COVID -19 pandemic on women’s economic empowerment. It is intended to serve as an advocacy document to position strategic messages by GWL in multilateral fora and processes, including in the context of the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing declaration and Platform for Action and Generation Equality Forum.
